Advance Registration Required

The FB 50 is a 50 mile paddling CHALLENGE for experienced, self-reliant paddlers in good physical condition. ADVANCE REGISTRATION by mail is required. Also, the FB 50 is limited to the first twenty-four (24) boats to register. The entry form can be found by CLICKING HERE

Race Schedule

Everyone undertaking the French Broad 50 MUST have registered by April 10th. All Challengers will meet at the Hap Simpson Riverfront Park (River Mile 21; course mile 0) on Route 276 just east of Brevard) at 6:45 a.m. At 7:00 a.m. sharp, all Challengers start. Challengers have to pass the Westfeldt access (River Mile 34; course mile 13) by 10:30 at the latest; if you don't make it by then, you are too far off the pace and will need to pull out there (we will get you a ride back to Brevard). All Challengers then have to pass Westfeldt River Park (River Mile 52; course mile 31) by 2:00 at the latest; if not, same deal. The finish is at Asheville Outdoor Center by 5:00 p.m. (River Mile 68; course mile 47 but, hey, we round up!!).

Self Reliance

IMPORTANT: ***All Challengers must realize that they will be alone on the river and must be able to handle themselves under those circumstances (pit crews are allowed and encouraged). No help will be available to Challengers on the river. It is required that every Challenger take a mobile phone in addition to all other appropriate gear. Any Challenger that has to abandon the Challenge for any reason MUST, absolutely MUST contact a race official (preferably Tom at 919-428-4302). Failure to do so may result in a possible ban from all future FB Paddle Racing events. Absent extraordinary qualifications, all Challengers must be at least 18 years old.***

Feel free to e-mail us at with questions at Frankly, however, if you need a lot more information than what is provided here, this might not be the event for you! However, additional information about the area can be found on the French Broad Classique page.
